Patches goes to Zion, part 3 of Utah series

We wanted to go to Zion National Park while in Utah, knowing that we could not do much hiking with Patches with us. We drove the 4-5 hours to get to Zion. On the way there was several beautiful sites and overlooks. We took Utah’s scenic route 12, and I highly recommend spending some time driving this and stopping by Bryce Canyon. The topography / landscape was everchanging in color and texture. It’s hard to lose interest site-seeing in this beautiful state. We reached Zion NP right at sunset, taking in the sunset views as we drove through the park. We stayed at a Holiday Inn in a town nearby. Patches had started waking up and grabbing his leash running around with it excitedly bringing it to us…. letting us know, it’s time to go on our daily adventure! As we drove through Zion, we saw beautiful rock formations, deer, and mountain goats. The park wasn’t as busy because it was getting ready to close down.

The next morning, we drove to a ranger station to get some maps. The park ranger gave some recommendations (based on me telling her that we wanted Patches to be able to get out and walk and that we prefer less crowded areas), telling us to check out Kolob canyon. She said the main road to it was closed, but that we could hike/walk it with Patches, also saying that this area isn’t as crowded as other areas of Zion. Patches loved the hike… and playing tuggy with my husband fighting over who was going to lead…

After a rest, we headed back to the truck to drive back into the main part of the park (Hwy 9). We went up a road heading towards a mountain top lake. The road was closed close to the top due to snow, but we wanted to check out if we could hike the rest of the way. We ended up turning back around, as the snow was too deep for us to hike. Instead, we stopped at a mountain stream and a little open valley that had room for all of us to roam and take in the sites. I took Patches’ leash and walked him around while my husband enjoyed some time exploring. Patches’ was absolutely vibing at a beautiful high frequency. Taking in all the space and fresh air. I got lost in the moment to the point where I wasn’t paying much attention to my husband, who had caught Patches’ attention. All of a sudden, I felt a jerk, and was flying through the air, to being drug through the brush… and finally came to a stop. Patches had got excited and darted after my husband while I was attached securely to the leash, as I had wrapped it a few times around my arm to ensure that I had leash control. On the Contrary, the dog had leash control. I did manage to save the camera and lens and avoided broken bones which makes it laugh worthy. Here are some views from Hwy 9 in Zion National Park and the little valley we stumbled on….
